GLP-1 Weight Loss Medication
As moms, we know a lot can happen in ten months. After all, we can grow an entire human in that time! I did that back-to-back for three years. While it's beautiful, miraculous, and magical, it's also incredibly challenging—especially when you're over 40. It's not just recovering from a hangover that's impossible at my age; getting my body back to where it was before having kids seems just as unlikely.
At one year postpartum with my youngest daughter, I was in the worst shape of my life. Before becoming a mom, I was a competitive CrossFitter and coach, but now I was getting winded just chasing my kids around, weighing in at 250 pounds. It felt so defeating. I had no time to focus on eating better and no energy to work out. I was starting to settle into just being overweight and embracing my new body because, hey, it's 2024, and we don't body shame anymore (at least not out loud). But the loop playing in my mind was far from accepting. I knew this wasn't who I wanted to be or who my kids needed me to be.
I tried calorie deficits and daily workouts, but nothing worked. My body wasn’t responding the way it did before I had kids. Then, I saw a magazine in my doctor's office about GLP-1 medications and how they were helping people jump-start their weight loss. I decided to give it a shot (pun intended!). In November 2023, after struggling to find Wegovy in stock, I started on compounded semaglutide with Sunrise.
I stayed on semaglutide for nine months, combining the medication with a diet plan, Pilates, and rock climbing. While there's no magic here, there's a lot of hard work and a bit of science. Together, they've helped me lose 80 pounds, boost my energy, and get into the best shape of my life.
The real reward? I recently caught a glimpse of my daughter watching me as I looked at myself in the mirror. (Who knows how many times she's seen me look in the mirror and I never noticed.) This time, though, I was smiling at my reflection, and she was beaming back at me, looking proud. I was proud too—proud of the work I've done and proud of who my daughter gets to see me be every day.
